Coffee supply is getting less reliable: climate extremes, degrading soils, pests and disease all put volume and quality at risk. Shade and agroforestry are widely promoted as the answer, but on most farms the shade canopy is never actively managed. Plots become overshaded, yields decline, and soils keep degrading, so the resilience buyers are counting on never materialises.
DAF manages that system actively. High planting densities combined with regular pruning cycle organic matter back into the soil, lifting yields and fertility, buffering microclimate, and rapidly building carbon in soil and standing trees. Management itself becomes a climate tool.
