Pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette demande, la superficie cultiv\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tendue dans les zones de for\u00eat tropicale et la production s'est intensifi\u00e9e, les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers traditionnels ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9s par des monocultures. Cela a entra\u00een\u00e9 une perte de biodiversit\u00e9 dans les zones de culture du cacao. La mise en \u0153uvre de pratiques agricoles plus durables pour la production de cacao, telles que l'agriculture biologique et les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers, d\u00e9pend de la rentabilit\u00e9 de ces pratiques pour les agriculteurs.<\/p>\n<p>Dans cette \u00e9tude, la productivit\u00e9 et la rentabilit\u00e9 de l'agroforesterie et des monocultures en plein soleil (avec deux ans d'ombrage temporaire par des plantains) en agriculture biologique et conventionnelle sont compar\u00e9es pour les cinq premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es d'un essai \u00e0 long terme r\u00e9cemment mis en place \u00e0 Alto Beni, en Bolivie. Les rendements du cacao et des cultures associ\u00e9es (plantains\/bananes), les co\u00fbts, les recettes et les besoins en main-d\u2019\u0153uvre ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9s, et le rendement du travail, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire le rendement par journ\u00e9e de travail, a \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9 pour chaque syst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats ont montr\u00e9 que les rendements en cacao \u00e9taient d\u2019environ 40% plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s dans les monocultures que dans les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers. Cependant, les recettes issues de la vente des bananes et des plantains compensent largement cette diff\u00e9rence sur le plan \u00e9conomique. Ainsi, le rendement du travail sur l\u2019ensemble des ann\u00e9es \u00e9tait environ deux fois plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers que dans les monocultures, m\u00eame si les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers exigeaient davantage de main-d\u2019\u0153uvre que les monocultures, principalement en raison du temps n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la gestion des arbres d\u2019ombrage. Les efforts visant \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper et \u00e0 rendre accessibles aux agriculteurs des d\u00e9bouch\u00e9s pour la vente de cultures d\u2019appoint telles que les bananes ou les bananes plantains sont donc essentiels pour garantir la rentabilit\u00e9 des syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers.<\/p>\n<p>En comparant l\u2019agriculture biologique et l\u2019agriculture conventionnelle, les rendements en cacao et le rendement du travail \u00e9taient similaires dans les deux modes de culture au sein des syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers. En revanche, dans les monocultures, les rendements en cacao \u00e9taient inf\u00e9rieurs de pr\u00e8s de 50% en agriculture biologique. En revanche, le rendement du travail \u00e9tait similaire. Cela s\u2019expliquait principalement par le co\u00fbt moindre de la culture biologique. Ces r\u00e9sultats pourraient avoir des implications importantes pour les petits exploitants agricoles, qui disposent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement d\u2019une \u00e9pargne limit\u00e9e et n\u2019ont pas acc\u00e8s au cr\u00e9dit.
