L'\u00e9tude a montr\u00e9 que si les monocultures conventionnelles produisaient initialement les rendements de cacao les plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s, les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers \u00e9taient nettement plus performants que les monocultures en termes de rendement total du syst\u00e8me, si l'on tient compte de tous les produits commercialisables, tels que les bananes et les autres cultures d'accompagnement. La gestion biologique a entra\u00een\u00e9 des rendements de cacao inf\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 ceux des pratiques conventionnelles, en particulier dans les monocultures. Toutefois, dans les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers, l'\u00e9cart de rendement entre la gestion biologique et la gestion conventionnelle \u00e9tait moins prononc\u00e9 et n'\u00e9tait pas statistiquement significatif. Les r\u00e9sultats sugg\u00e8rent que les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers, en particulier lorsqu'ils sont g\u00e9r\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re biologique, peuvent am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire locale et fournir des sources de revenus diversifi\u00e9es aux petits exploitants agricoles.
