Cette \u00e9tude examine l'impact de la taille des arbres d'ombrage sur les rendements et les revenus du cacao dans les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers en Bolivie. Les agriculteurs qui ont \u00e9lagu\u00e9 leurs arbres d'ombrage ont vu leur rendement passer de 430 kg\/ha \u00e0 710 kg\/ha de f\u00e8ves de cacao s\u00e8ches. Cette am\u00e9lioration a \u00e9t\u00e9 attribu\u00e9e \u00e0 une meilleure floraison et \u00e0 une meilleure production de cabosses gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une plus grande disponibilit\u00e9 de la lumi\u00e8re.<\/span><\/p>\n

Si l'\u00e9lagage a permis d'augmenter les rendements de mani\u00e8re significative, la faisabilit\u00e9 financi\u00e8re d\u00e9pendait de la productivit\u00e9 initiale de l'exploitation. Les exploitations ayant des rendements de base plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s sont celles qui en ont le plus profit\u00e9 sur le plan \u00e9conomique, car les revenus suppl\u00e9mentaires provenant de l'augmentation de la production de cacao l'ont emport\u00e9 sur les co\u00fbts de l'\u00e9lagage. Cependant, pour les exploitations ayant des rendements plus faibles, les co\u00fbts de l'\u00e9lagage ont souvent d\u00e9pass\u00e9 les gains de revenus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9sultats soulignent l'importance de la gestion des arbres d'ombrage dans le cadre de l'agroforesterie durable du cacao. L'\u00e9lagage permet non seulement d'augmenter les rendements, mais aussi d'am\u00e9liorer l'\u00e9quilibre g\u00e9n\u00e9ral entre la productivit\u00e9 et les services \u00e9cosyst\u00e9miques, tels que le stockage du carbone et la biodiversit\u00e9.
