Contrairement aux croyances traditionnelles, l'\u00e9tude a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que lorsque de bonnes pratiques de gestion culturelle - telles que la taille r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, la r\u00e9colte fr\u00e9quente et l'\u00e9limination rapide des cabosses malades - sont mises en \u0153uvre, les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers ne pr\u00e9sentent pas de taux de parasites et de maladies plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s que les monocultures. Lors d'exp\u00e9riences men\u00e9es en Bolivie pendant trois ans, seuls 14% des cabosses de cacao ont \u00e9t\u00e9 affect\u00e9s par des ravageurs et des maladies, tous syst\u00e8mes confondus, sans diff\u00e9rence significative entre les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers et les monocultures. En outre, l'augmentation de la fr\u00e9quence de la r\u00e9colte et de l'\u00e9limination des cabosses malades de tous les 25 jours \u00e0 tous les 15 jours a permis de r\u00e9duire de mani\u00e8re significative l'incidence des maladies et d'augmenter les rendements jusqu'\u00e0 46% dans les petites exploitations agricoles. Ces r\u00e9sultats sugg\u00e8rent que les petits producteurs de cacao peuvent adopter des pratiques agroforesti\u00e8res sans craindre une augmentation des probl\u00e8mes de parasites, \u00e0 condition de maintenir de bonnes pratiques de gestion.
