L'\u00e9tude compare quatre jeunes syst\u00e8mes de production de cacao : monoculture conventionnelle, monoculture biologique, agroforesterie conventionnelle et agroforesterie biologique. En utilisant une approche d'analyse du cycle de vie (ACV), l'\u00e9tude \u00e9value le lien alimentation-\u00e9nergie-eau et dix cat\u00e9gories d'impact environnemental, telles que l'empreinte carbone et l'utilisation de l'eau. Les r\u00e9sultats r\u00e9v\u00e8lent que les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers, en particulier lorsqu'ils sont g\u00e9r\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re biologique, ont de meilleures performances environnementales que les monocultures conventionnelles. Les syst\u00e8mes agroforestiers ont fait preuve d'une plus grande efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, d'une moindre utilisation des ressources non renouvelables et d'une r\u00e9duction des incidences sur l'environnement, malgr\u00e9 des empreintes hydriques l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es en raison de rendements plus faibles au cours des premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Pour les petits exploitants, l'adoption de pratiques agroforesti\u00e8res et d'une gestion biologique peut conduire \u00e0 une production de cacao plus durable, \u00e0 une meilleure efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et \u00e0 des sources de revenus diversifi\u00e9es gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des cultures suppl\u00e9mentaires telles que les bananes et les arbres \u00e0 bois.
