Analizando 52 art\u00edculos, la investigaci\u00f3n descubri\u00f3 que, si bien el rendimiento del cacao en los sistemas agroforestales es aproximadamente 25% inferior al de los monocultivos, el rendimiento total del sistema -incluidos otros cultivos como frutas y madera- es aproximadamente diez veces superior. Esta diversificaci\u00f3n contribuye significativamente a la seguridad alimentaria y proporciona fuentes de ingresos adicionales a los peque\u00f1os agricultores. Adem\u00e1s, los sistemas agroforestales almacenan 2,5 veces m\u00e1s carbono que los monocultivos, lo que contribuye a mitigar el cambio clim\u00e1tico. Tambi\u00e9n contribuyen a la adaptaci\u00f3n al clima al reducir las temperaturas medias y amortiguar las temperaturas extremas, creando un microclima m\u00e1s favorable para los cacaotales. El estudio no encontr\u00f3 diferencias significativas en la fertilidad del suelo entre los dos sistemas, y la incidencia de plagas y enfermedades vari\u00f3 en funci\u00f3n de la especie.
