La investigaci\u00f3n compara cuatro sistemas de cacao joven: monocultivo convencional, monocultivo ecol\u00f3gico, agrosilvicultura convencional y agrosilvicultura ecol\u00f3gica. Utilizando un enfoque de evaluaci\u00f3n del ciclo de vida (ECV), el estudio eval\u00faa el nexo alimentos-energ\u00eda-agua y diez categor\u00edas de impacto ambiental, como la huella de carbono y el uso del agua. Los resultados revelan que los sistemas agroforestales, especialmente cuando se gestionan de forma org\u00e1nica, tienen mejores resultados medioambientales que los monocultivos convencionales. Los sistemas agroforestales mostraron una mayor eficiencia energ\u00e9tica, un menor uso de recursos no renovables y una reducci\u00f3n del impacto ambiental, a pesar de una huella h\u00eddrica ligeramente superior debido a un menor rendimiento en los primeros a\u00f1os. Para los peque\u00f1os agricultores, la adopci\u00f3n de pr\u00e1cticas agroforestales y de gesti\u00f3n org\u00e1nica puede conducir a una producci\u00f3n de cacao m\u00e1s sostenible, una mayor eficiencia energ\u00e9tica y la diversificaci\u00f3n de las fuentes de ingresos a partir de cultivos adicionales como el pl\u00e1tano y los \u00e1rboles madereros.
