Die nat\u00fcrliche Vegetation der Region ist durch tropischen Regenwald gekennzeichnet. Die landwirtschaftliche T\u00e4tigkeit ist eine der Ursachen f\u00fcr die rasante Entwaldung in der Region und den Verlust der Artenvielfalt. Die in dieser Arbeit dargelegten Zusammenh\u00e4nge zeigen, dass die Komplexit\u00e4t lebender Systeme nicht nach Belieben reduziert werden kann und dass Monokulturen fr\u00fcher oder sp\u00e4ter deren Stabilit\u00e4t beeintr\u00e4chtigen werden, was sich in sinkenden Ertr\u00e4gen sowie Problemen mit Krankheiten und Sch\u00e4dlingen \u00e4u\u00dfert. M\u00f6gliche Ursachen hierf\u00fcr sind zum einen die geringe Artenvielfalt in Monokultursystemen und zum anderen die unzureichende Energieversorgung, d.\u202fh. Energie in Form von Ligninverbindungen. Seit 1996 werden in der Region sukzessive Agroforstsysteme (SAFS) mit Orangen und anderen Kulturen entwickelt, deren Funktionsprinzipien auf der nat\u00fcrlichen Artensukzession beruhen und bei denen Arten mit unterschiedlichen Lebenszyklen in hoher Dichte mit den wirtschaftlich relevanten Kulturen kombiniert werden. Durch Schnittma\u00dfnahmen gelingt es, einen hohen Energiefluss innerhalb des Systems aufrechtzuerhalten. In diesem Artikel werden die Ergebnisse von Untersuchungen zur Bodenfruchtbarkeit und zum Befall von Orangenplantagen durch die Fruchtfliege sowohl in Agroforstsystemen als auch in Monokulturen vorgestellt; wobei sich zeigt, dass in den erstgenannten Systemen bessere und h\u00f6here Fruchtbarkeitswerte bei geringerer Sch\u00e4dlings- und Krankheitsbelastung erreicht werden und gleichzeitig eine betr\u00e4chtliche Biodiversit\u00e4t mit mehr als 60 verschiedenen Wald- und Obstbaumarten pro Hektar erhalten bleibt.
