Project Overview: Promoting Agroecological Transition Through Dynamic Agroforestry

The project aims to empower local actors and farming families in the Bolivian Amazon by promoting Dynamische Agroforstwirtschaft (DAF) as a sustainable and regenerative agricultural strategy. By strengthening the knowledge and leadership of indigenous peritantes and farming families, the initiative enhances local capacities, increases agroforestry productivity, diversifies production systems, and promotes organic certification under the Participatory Guarantee System (SPG).

Objectives: Advancing Sustainable Agroforestry and Certification

1. Train Indigenous Leaders in Dynamic Agroforestry Practices

  • Develop local expertise through two cycles of training, enabling indigenous peritantes to establish and maintain agroforestry plots.

  • Enhance knowledge of system management and promote sustainable land-use practices.

2. Increase Productivity and Diversify Agroforestry Systems

  • Establish and diversify 90+ plots with at least 16 fruit and forest species.

  • Improve cacao yields by at least 60% through targeted pruning and plot maintenance.

3. Promote SPG Certification and Market Access

  • Certify at least 150 farming families under the SPG certification system.

  • Establish 1 agroecological restaurant and 1 sales point to promote organic and locally grown products.

Key Project Activities to Enhance Agroforestry Systems

Capacity Building for Indigenous Leaders and Farming Families

  • Two training cycles with eight modules focused on agroforestry establishment and management.

  • Knowledge transfer through farmer-to-farmer exchange programs.

Technical Support and Advisory Services

  • Continuous technical follow-up and personalized guidance for agroforestry plot management.

  • Field visits and monitoring to assess plot performance and productivity.

Plot Diversification and Increased Yield Efficiency

  • Diversification of agroforestry systems with at least 16 new species.

  • Implementation of pruning techniques in 120 plots to increase cacao yields by 60%.

SPG Certification and Market Access Development

  • Support for 150 farming families to obtain SPG certification.
  • Creation of 1 agroecological restaurant and 1 sales point in Palos Blancos to facilitate local market access.

A Scalable Model for Agroecological Cocoa and Food Production

Unter empowering local farmers and indigenous leaders, this project strengthens agroecological resilience in the Bolivian Amazon. Through field training, farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange, and agroforestry market development, ECOTOP is scaling Dynamic Agroforestry as a high-yield, climate-smart solution.
